First things first : what to include in your details box
My first (and probably most important) tip is to keep all of your details together in a box. This way, everything is in one place and ready to be photographed as soon as I arrive. Not only does this help the morning flow more smoothly, it also allows you to fully enjoy the excitement of getting ready without having to run around gathering items. It avoids me having to ask a million questions and helps us stay on schedule. When everything is prepared ahead of time, I can capture all of your detail photos in about 15 minutes, keeping the morning relaxed and stress-free.
The Ultimate Checklist :
Invitation suite (invite, envelope, RSVP card, wax seals)
Wedding rings (both bands + engagement ring)
Jewelry (earrings, necklace, bracelets)
Shoes
Veil or hair accessories
Perfume or cologne
Cufflinks, watch, tie or bow tie
Vow books or letters
Loose florals from your florist
Special heirlooms or sentimental pieces
Delegating Responsibility
Getting ready suites often get a little crazy and messy, so make sure to entrust your maid or man of honor with the responsibility of keeping up with your details box can be a great way to help you relax and stay unbothered the morning of!
consider lighting
Lighting is KEY, especially when I'm capturing indoor events. For your getting ready photos, be sure to think about how the lighting will affect your images. A dark hotel room is going to be harder to photograph in, so consider having big windows near your getting ready space.
have a clean space
The morning of a wedding can be hectic, + the getting ready space often suffers because of that. Before I arrive, try your best to clean up your space of food, miscellaneous water bottles, duffel bags, or anything you don't want in the background on your photos.
End-of-the-Night Details
While wedding detail photos usually happen in the morning, some of the most meaningful details actually appear at the very end of the celebration.
Things like a partially eaten slice of cake, scattered polaroids from the guest table, your late-night snack, or even the camera used by guests throughout the evening can create beautiful storytelling images. These small, imperfect moments capture the feeling of the celebration after it has been fully lived.
I love documenting these final details because they show the wedding exactly as it unfolded — the laughter, the dancing, the memories made throughout the night. A slice of cake left on a plate, flowers slightly undone, or instant photos spread across a table can feel incredibly nostalgic and authentic.
These images often become some of the most emotional in a gallery because they quietly say: the party happened, the love was celebrated, and the memories remain.
